Johann KRUGER

Dr Kruger is a renowned Cataract, Refractive and Corneal surgeon in Cape Town South Africa who has been in private practice for over 30 years. He has founded the Tyger Valley Eye and laser Clinic and the Waterfront Eye Hospital in Cape Town. He also a founding member of the International Society for Immediate Bilateral Simultaneous Surgery. He is a member of AAO, ESCRS, IIIC, SASCRS and OSSA.

He is a renowned international speaker who has lectured on 5 continents and delivered over 300 papers. He has co-authored several books and published many chapters in books and papers. Dr Kruger is passionate about Refractive Surgery.

He pioneered many procedures in South Africa including one of the first to do PRK, Lasik and Staar ICL in South Africa in the early 90’s. Custom Match or “Mix and Match “was started by dr Kruger as early as 1997. Dr Kruger was also the first to publish the treatment of recurrent epithelial ingrowth after Lasik, in 1998.

Dr Kruger was the first to use femto-laser in South Africa as early as 2008. He uses femto-laser for FLACS, Lasik, intracorneal rings, full thickness corneal grafts, customized CAIRS, lamellar corneal grafts, pterygium surgery, corneal inlays, astigmatic keratotomies and Klex. Dr Kruger was also the first to implant Allotex inlays in South Africa and one of the first the world.

Dr Kruger regularly attends scientific meetings all over the world and is a keen golfer. He has two sons and a daughter. His son who is an ex-springbok rugby player works with him and is the CEO of his clinics.
